HN Wins Digital ICS Transformation Category at HTN Now Awards 2023

HTN Trophy

We are delighted to have been awarded first place in the ‘Digital ICS transformation’ category of the 2023 HTN Now Awards. In a successful evening for HN, we were also highly commended in the ‘healthtech case study of the year’ category.

HN was shortlisted in both categories for our work with Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICS.

The aim of HN's trial in Staffordshire was to look at how existing patient data could be used to predict those most likely to attend A&E or need hospital care in the near future and intervene with targeted clinical coaching to reduce their dependence on A&E and GP services. The trial reduced average A&E admissions by 35%, with a 34% reduction in non-elective spells on average.

Mark England, HN CEO, said: “It is so pleasing to see our collaboration with Staffordshire recognised at such a prestigious national event. They have been a strong partner, always focussed on research and the evidence-base, and willing to innovate and take risks. Together we are looking forward to continuing our partnership to mitigate unplanned care pressures and deliver better outcomes.”

Judges comprised of over 250 health tech professionals and the winning entry for this category was announced by Jeffrey Wood, Deputy Director of ICT at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

About the nominated project

The project was led by Dr Paddy Hannigan, chair of the Stafford and Surround Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and clinical lead for Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care System (ICS) digital programme, who launched the trial with two of the six CCGs and three acute hospitals in 2016.

Dr Hannigan recently spoke to Digital Health News alongside Mark, about how the project works, the positive results that have come from it, challenges faced along the way and the exciting future plans for both Staffordshire ICS and HN.
