Health Navigator's Stories of Hope
"Talking to you really gives me hope and it gives me life."
The festive season is a time of struggle for too many of us. But it can also be a time of hope and rejuvenation.
Working with thousands of patients, we see at first hand the challenges winter throws up for so many of us. But we also witness the frequent moments of breakthrough.
Through this festive season, we shared a patient’s story of hope every week.
We believe it’s by learning from these stories of hope that we can renew our NHS and support everyone to live longer, healthier and happier lives.
Phil was the first in our series.
In his Story of Hope, Phil shared how a Health Navigator coach asked questions “without prying”, really listened, helped him find the support he needed, and ultimately reminded him he wasn’t alone.
“Don’t deny yourself the chance to be yourself again” was how Phil summed up his experience of Clinical Coaching in one sentence.
Please note: Phil talks about historic suicidal feelings in this video. If you or someone you know is struggling, free support is available 24/7: Samaritans 116 123 or text SHOUT to 85258.
Alison found that a Health Navigator coach took the time, was in her corner, and that - as a result - life was better.
As she put it: "people have noticed the difference in how I am."
Tim told us about the journey “from being an asthmatic to someone who happens to have asthma but can cope with it”.
Working with his Health Navigator clinical coach, Tim was able to take control of his health.
Through the relationship he built with his Clinical Coach, Paul was able to make a positive change.
Paul went from a heart attack resulting in severe, extreme panic attacks, to “feeling so well” with the help of his Clinical Coach.
"I'm back driving, back working in air control, and back flying." Peter got us off to a flying start in 2026 and his message was clear: "Grab it with both hands – you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
Finally, we heard from Glenroy.
Glenroy shared how his coach Liz treated him as a “whole person”, set him goals and “kept him on his toes” after he suffered a stroke.
Given his experience, he felt: "This programme is worth its weight in gold".
And with that, we closed out our Winter mini-series.
Heading into 2026, we're taking inspiration from Health Navigator patients who have chosen to take control of their health, with support from their Health Navigator Clinical Coach.
Thank you for sharing your stories Glenroy, Tim, Phil, Alison, Paul, and Peter.
